CB-IR(A) Competency Based Instrument Rating

Requirements:

  • Applicants must hold a valid PPL(A) or CPL(A) license with night rating (if IFR is to be flown at night)

  • Applicants must have completed 50 hours as pilot in command of airplanes.

  • Applicants must hold at least a class 2 medical certificate with a valid audiogram test

  • Applicants must hold a radio certificate AZF

  • Proof of English language proficiency ICAO (level 4)

CB-IR(A)

Theoretical training:

 The theoretical training and examination comprise a total of 7 subjects:

  • Flight planning and -monitoring

  • Radio Navigation

  • Instruments

  • Air-Law

  • Human Performance and Limitations

  • Meteorology

  • Communications

The theoretical examination must be taken at the LBA no later than 18 months after the beginning of education and registration.

Practical training:

The practical training consists of a minimum of 40 instrument flight hours out of which 10 hours can be flown in an FNPT I.

40 of 30 hours can also be credited if the applicant has trained with an authorized instructor outside the ATO. Only the remaining 10 hours would then have to be trained at an ATO.
